The Conway Cottage Stars Quilt – 70” x 72” (Q49)
The Conway Cottage Stars Quilt – 70” x 72” (Q49)
I grew up making little doll quilts for my dolls and teddies using my Mum’s scraps from dressmaking, cutting them into hexagons and wrapping them around hexagon templates then English paper piecing the whole lot together. It’s a slow way to make quilts for sure but it’s very meditative and relaxing to hand sew a long-term hand sewn project. This one isn’t quite as long term as some since the stars made in this quilt are appliquéd to the background rather than the entire quilt including the background being hand pieced. I hand appliqued the large stars but machine appliqued the smaller ones for speed and I don’t think you can really see the difference on the finished quilt unless you go in very close with a magnifying glass which is not something the users of quilts tend to do! The wadding is Cotton Mix 80:20 from Vlieseline. The quilt contains approx. 11 yards of quilting cotton and was made for Today’s Quilter magazine. This quilt is a one-off and was designed and made by Lynne Goldsworthy.
